A Spiritual Transformation Gives You Joy in Simple Things

Bhagavan makes spirituality easy, and says it is the amount of joy you have in your life. It is not measured by how many hours you meditate. Everyone, he says, will have a unique form of spirituality and awakening. If there are six billion people on the planet, then there will be six billion extraordinary experiences of awakening and of the Divine. That’s six billion special practices of spiritualities, six billion special experiences of spiritual transformation. One is not better than the other. Just be honest with yourself and know growth never really ends.

There’s an old story about a man seeking enlightenment. He finds an enlightened holy man who shares his before-and-after scenario with the spiritual seeker. “Before I was enlightened, I chopped wood and carried water,” says the holy man.

The seeker, expecting to hear about how amazing the holy man’s life became after his awakening, says, “Wow, what did you do afterward?”

“Chopped wood, carried water,” replies the holy man. “Only after I was enlightened, I really enjoyed it.” The spiritual seeker who looks to quiet the mind and pursues communion with God is growing his or her consciousness and doesn’t look for extraordinary experiences. When your consciousness grows, it means that you are developing the ability to experience the simplest things in life with joy.

You can have the same experiences repeatedly and feel a new, heightened sense of awareness each time. Eating a big slice of your birthday cake is always fun. So is seeing the same family members every year, riding the Tilt-A-Whirl, or catching the same bass in the lake behind your house. Unawareness is feeling disconnected or let down by life, feeling depressed, like a robot living on emotional reactions. You sense lack everywhere, in everything. If you think you’re leading a spiritual life, ask yourself, “How well am I experiencing my reality? Is there joy in nearly everything?” If you’re awakened, you see life for what it is rather than what you think it should be. Living a spiritual life is feeling at ease with yourself, your feelings, and your relationships. It’s accepting people exactly as they are and being grateful for them. You’re able to face other people without fear, guilt, or defense mechanisms because you’re not on guard, not afraid of making mistakes or losing something.

A person who is truly spiritual can live alongside of others and never forget God, even for a moment. The Sufi sage Abu Sa’id ibn Abi-al-Khayr once said that the true mystic can come and go, eat and sleep, buy and sell, marry, chat, and be with others in the mainstream of life but never be out of touch with his or her own divinity. No matter what your life experiences are, there is no reason ever to be separated from who you really are.

What is ‘The Oneness Movement’?

Oneness is not a religion, cult or faith that demands your conversion or change in your beliefs or practices. It is a system that helps you discover the truth of your own faith through a direct personal experience of the divine. It is not an alternative path but a natural fulfillment of your every spiritual aspiration.

The purpose of the Oneness Movement is to awaken the human family, offering a gift of grace of spiritual opening (flowering of the heart) to all people rather than a few selective seekers as in the past. It is meant to restore wholeness within humanity as well as with the world environment.

The Oneness Movement teachings are coming from India, and originated from a couple named Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan. They consider themselves one unified, avataric consciousness. They are God-realized and were initiating the collective force of unified consciousness in the form of something called the Oneness Blessing. It’s actually Deeksha, but the difference between them and all who have gone before is that they are teaching everyone how to give it. They are interested in creating individual change through this neurobiological event and say it happens through grace, once you invite grace into your being. It’s available for everyone and is currently helping millions of people around the world awaken to a greater sense of self-worth and boundless joy.

A Joyful Journey Continues to Unfold

This year, dancing with Blake on the ballroom circuit has been a journey with many ups and downs, but mostly, a year full of happy surprises.  All over this beautiful country, we have met amazing people and have had an opportunity to experience something totally unique. Often in life, when we decide to make a commitment to excellence, and put our passion and energies into a specific goal, the Universe has something better in store for us, when we align our intentions with joy. This has certainly been true for us.

We are coming down the homestretch on the competitive dance season with 4 months to go, and hope to finish first on the World Pro-Am DanceSport Series Leaderboard. Who would have thought we would place so well?  At the moment, we are holding first place rankings in all styles for the Region Four Team Scores as well as the DanceSport series. The DanceSport Series includes ballroom competitions across North America. Points accumulated during each event count toward a national ranking during the course of one calendar year. Additionally, our scores have helped to push our studio, Birmingham Ballroom, to the top of the list, another wonderful surprise.

By December, will have attended over 26 competitions in 2012 to achieve our goal. We’ve often laughed about this, having been road warriors who are frequently stuck at airports on holidays or delayed in traffic. Being on the road so much, there were days we didn’t know what city we were in or where we were heading next.

Dancing together for two years, we recently took inventory of all our numerous awards, a Triple Crown Championship in our division, and even a few memorable train wrecks (translation: forgetting your open choreography, which makes a two minute routine seem like an eternity.)  Despite regular physical injuries, missing our families, and stepping on each other’s toes more times than can be counted, we’ve performed on the competitive ballroom floor nearly 10,000 times. For better or for worse, it’s been a year to remember.

Winning the leaderboard, coupled with our shared goal of placing first on the Global DanceSport Series and the Dancers Cup Tour, the remaining two of the three national competitive ballroom dance circuits, would be a dancing grand slam.  Since we’ve competed in all three series, we thought as long as we were fit, and having fun, we might as well go for it. Every time we walk out of the dancefloor, we continue to put joy at the front of our agenda, and will remember to inspire others to do the same. And who knows what will happen? I hope you will hold us in your heart, and maybe visit us on the road during my Dance Sabbatical in the next few months. I’ll let you know how our journey is going, and what we’ve experienced! Every Blessing,
