Stop Negative Self-Talk: Five Ways to Build More Confidence

Do you want to improve your life and feel productive? It begins in your mind! If you take charge of your thoughts, you can develop new mental habits that generate more confidence, joy and success.

Recognize Negativity

Mainstream thought is often negative and sales oriented. It focuses on problems, and cultivates a belief in scarcity. Our media culture generates negativity and fear. News, political commentary, and advertising tells us we are uneducated, lonely, unhappy, unhealthy, poor, slow, needy, and overall, leading miserable lives. If you believe, and recirculate, all information presented to you, you are not exercising the creative power of your own mind.  Be disciplined, aware of your thinking, and sensible. Your natural state is joy. Don’t allow your experiences to become someone else’s idea of what your life should look like.

We might own many outdated ideas or dramas from the past, such as old parental messages, disappointing relationships, or any number of perceived failures. These affect our decision making. We create negative self-talk and negative thought processes when we give those experiences and messages too much power over our present reality. If we choose to value the insight we gain from tough personal or work they will become lessons full of wisdom and maturity. It makes us better teachers, in any area of life. Thus, there is no need to grieve, resent, or get stuck in the past.

Here are a few classic disempowering thoughts you may recognize. I’m not beautiful. I’m poor but good. I can’t be happy. Life is hard. The world is a terrible place. I will fail. Things will never get any better. I never make any money. Do you want to break bad mental habits? Be aware of what you think about. The first step to improve today is to change your thinking. Focus on a sense of positive expectation. See yourself as successful and competent. Release your fears. Think good thoughts about everyone. Have a sense of compassion for people who make decisions that do not recognize, nor respect, their divine potential.

Set a New Mental Equivalent

What we think broadcasts to the universe what we want to create. If we set a mental equivalent of success, prosperity, better relationships, more self-confidence, or love, then that’s where our mind needs to be. Not occasionally. All the time.

Focus on a sense of positive expectation, instead of lamenting over the disasters presented on the morning news, or posting negative commentary on social media. Choose to rise out of negativity by seeing the best in your colleagues, family, or friends for 10 minutes a day. See yourself as a success. See yourself as a loving person and love yourself. Use positive and auspicious language (no swearing!) Release your fears about being a worthy individual. It is impossible for you to be a nobody. Switch on your internal positive thought channel the moment you arise in the morning, and consciously invite abundance and opportunity into your daily experience.

Know That Thoughts Create Reality

Plenty of experts will tell you that thoughts create reality. Today’s popular blend of mysticism, psychology, spirituality, consciousness studies, religion, and science points toward the power of energy and intention. Western culture is embracing the power of the mind, and the discipline needed to harness its power.

An empowered thinker is one who masters their emotions and outlook on life. This is accomplished with positive thinking. By being aware of your internal state, and how that translates into your reactions and behaviors, it is possible to develop your mind to support who you want to be, rather than being an effect of the world.

A positive mental attitude is an optimistic thought processes.  It has a foundation in love, prosperity, achievement, excellence, confidence, self-worth, and gratitude. When you interact with others with these qualities, you become an inspiration. It is a way to approach life. Disciplined yourself to think, speak, and be positive. It will train your mind to change a perceived reality.  You can begin the process by repeatedly making positive mental statements.

Notice when you shift to a negative perception or expectation. The film What the Bleep Do We Know!? showed that our neuro networks become ingrained in patterns that make us search for a chemical hit in our interpretation of reality. So, when we choose to stay in a negative thought process, we keep repeating the same life experiences because we will never view a different reality. Our lives never improve. Living an abundant and joyful life becomes impossible because we generate more of what we don’t want.

Negative Thoughts Have Physical Effects

Our thoughts, memories, and emotions affect our bodies. Science has determined that we hardwire our brains by our associative memory—our associations with people, events, times, places, and things. We assign emotions to the memories recorded in complex strings of nerve cells that are wired together. The strings become networks of information we can automatically access.

Connections between our nerve cells are strengthened when they are repeatedly stimulated in a process called long term potentiation. Ordinary, as well as extreme, circumstances, program our brains.  This is associative learning. For example, trauma can change the structure and function of the brain and may create an automatic response in the form of anxiety or fear.

The good news is that we rely upon many automatic programs to function. Neural networks give us a wonderful opportunity to shift into mental cruise control. Why think about brushing our teeth or riding a bike? We simply do it. We’ve established the network by repetition so it’s no necessary to think about every moment in life in excruciating detail. Positive thinking is a habit, built by repetition, and optimizes our talents. People who project a healthy and optimistic outlook are magnetic and an inspiration to others.

Your thinking affects your bodies. Thoughts can become complex patterns that don’t serve you well. For example, putting yourself down is a bad habit built on old information and experience. Why create your current reality with old data? Leftover emotions like despair, discouragement, low self-esteem, and self-pity from past experiences gives you a chemical boost of neuropeptides and guides your perception of new choices. And the kind of reality you create based upon old, outdated information will greatly differ from an attitude of self-love, self-worth, gratitude, service to others, or joy.

Cancel Negative Thoughts and Substitute Powerful Ideas

If you want to feel better, stop engaging in negative self-talk. These are all ‘put down’ habits you have unconsciously developed, such as I can’t get ahead in this organization, I never succeed, I am never noticed, I’m always late, I’m not smart enough. New positive thought-strings facilitate new systems in the brain. They produce a chemistry associated with emotional changes. So, learn to react differently to life. If you catch yourself in a ‘put-down’ say “I cancel that.” Substitute a new and powerful thought about yourself, such as I am an important part of this organization, I am successful and wise, I create success wherever I go, I respect everyone’s time, and I am a powerful presence and important to many people.

Thoughts, emotions, beliefs, are intertwined with your physicality. Negative self-talk can make you feel ill and unmotivated. Here’s how to choose your thoughts wisely, shift to positive self-talk and move your mind to a new way of being. You can easily cultivate these healthy habits:

  1. Check your state of mind. Choose your own attitude and emotions. Don’t accept another person’s outlook on life. Focus your intentions in the present moment. Because we have a choice, our experiences begin in the mind. As within, so without. Be aware of what you want to create.
  2. Focus on today. Leave old memories, past relationships, and hurts behind. Put your energy into the present moment. Find joy in what you do well and what you bring to the world. Take a deep breath, stay centered, and remind yourself that life is a gift.
  3. See the big picture. Today is but a blink in time. Difficult moments are not permanent. You can move through them with ease and grace, without depleting your energy reserves. Make a commitment to make every day count because life moves all too quickly. Quit wasting your energy on unproductive ideas, spreading gossip, and regurgitating old, negative conversations.
  4. Release negative expectation. Focus on what YOU can do to contribute to a better world and not what others expect you to do. Pace yourself. As you practice positive expectation, you’ll naturally attract better circumstances. Have faith in the process.
  5. Be thankful. There is no better way to change your energy then to turn up the volume on gratitude. Focused on joy, and be thankful for what brings you joy. By the Law of Attraction, the universe will provide you with more joy. Be generous and say thank you to those in your life who care about you. Appreciate yourself for being on this planet to serve others with your special gifts. Have gratitude for your journey.

Retiring negative perceptions frees space in your mind for a new positive attitude. Stop recycling old emotional states that have no purpose and cultivate self-worth confidence. Be persistent. Let go of self-criticism and move forward. When a challenge arises, include thoughts of competence, gratitude, prosperity, unconditional love, self-appreciation, and joy. That’s the foundation of a new and better reality!

The Nature of God and Successful Prayer: Principle – Part Seven

Do you desire more harmony in your business or relationships, and have prayed for positive change with no results? You are not alone. Many people feel disconnected during prayer and become discouraged because they do not see negative situations turning around. Often, we have tuned out mentally from God.

Emmet Fox, a New Thought minister from the 1940’s, taught that focusing on God first produces results. His book Alter Your Life helped many people understand their relationship to God, and to bring themselves into harmony with the law of being. His essay, The Seven Main Aspects of God, explained how to embrace the idea of divine principle to set negative conditions right.

Let’s complete our series on prayer and learn to put your energy and thoughts in the right place.

The Seventh Aspect: Principle

The seventh aspect of God is principle. I see this as the unchangeable structure, or rule, behind our living existence.

For example, the principle of thermal expansion says that most solids, liquids and gases expand when heated. Most materials are subject to thermal expansion and they tend to expand when heated, and contract when cooled.  Bridges are built with metal expansion joints, so they can expand and contract without ruining the structure. If you heat a piece of steel, it will expand, no matter if it is in a bridge or another kind of steel structure. Size or design makes no difference. The principle of expansion is the same because it is unchanging. The principle is not the action of making the bridge or any other product.  It is not the steel.  It is the fact that matter expands under heat.

Emmet points out another principle: The angles of a triangle always add up to 180 degrees. This principle exists in all triangles.  The area of any triangle can be a square inch or a square mile. The principle is the same. The law of gravitation is another principle that never changes nor ceases to operate.

These principles are always true. They do not change. There are no exceptions, as far as we know. They have been true a million years ago and will be true tomorrow and many days after.

God is Principle, the principle of perfect harmony, and this is the nature of his creation. Perfect harmony is the law of being. Prayer is answered because God is principle and successful prayer, which is prayer that produces results, brings you into harmony with the law of being.  In prayer, you cannot change the universal law and will see no results by asking God to change the laws for your convenience.  For example, if you pray for the law of gravity to change, so your friends won’t die if they leap off a 100-story skyscraper, you are asking for a principle to change, in this case, the law of gravity.  You do not pray to change the principle or laws of nature.  You pray to tune into the principle that already exists, which is perfect harmony.  This is the way to set things right in your life.

Think Big

We spend a lot of time agonizing over defeat and difficult situations. The reason they occur is because we have tuned out mentally from God, or the divine principle of our being. It is difficult to watch the news and believe that the world is in perfect harmony, given all the strife and political unrest we currently see. It seems challenging to believe that the world is harmonious; therefore, the challenge is to think big. We must rise to a higher level of consciousness, and know that all that we see is governed by divine principle (and remember, it is an illusion because matter is not reality!) God is intelligence and does not waste in the universal totality. There is an intelligence and love so vast where each element, individual, or thing plays an exceptional role in a perfect process.

I like to think that all life is involved in a learning process, and our self-development journey is to evolve to higher consciousness. It is the essential integration of many experiences, both perceived good and bad, at an individual, national, and global level.  Everything and everyone has a purpose that is governed by the divine principle of perfect harmony.  Any intelligence so vast could not be otherwise.

When you are discouraged, or you have feelings of prejudice, hostility, resentment, or malice toward another, it is helpful to realize that Principle is the power that will help you shift to better circumstances. This is the time to ‘rise above’ a situation and pour love into it.  It is time to understand that the divine principle of perfect harmony is the only power that exists.

Daily Practice: Practicing the Presence of God as Principle

  1. Give your attention to God, not your problem. Claim you understand that there is a principle of perfect harmony in the universe. See the universe as a vast collection of life, experiences, and events.
  2. Consider a difficult situation you are experiencing. Claim that harmony works through you. Acknowledge that divine principle is at work in your life and in the life of others. See that an organized structure holds the universe together.
  3. Recognize that divine principle is an aspect of God. Know that it is unchanging and powerful. Feel harmony working through you. See yourself as one who brings harmony to any situation.
  4. Shift your energy to a positive state, where you feel the difficulty in your life is changing for the better. See a positive outcome, and claim that the situation is healed. Be confident.
  5. Give thanks for the positive outcome and all you have received.

Successful Prayer

These aspects of God are always true, so in prayer, it is helpful to think about two or more of them. Be diligent and pray regularly. At a minimum, when you feel angry or depressed, or a negative condition arises, turn back to one of more of these aspects and claim that the presence of God is at work in your life. Claim that these qualities are with you always, and work through you.

The entire universe, and everything we experience, is a complex, interdependent system of thoughts.  One thing cannot change without changing another.  Therefore, to change our situations or the way we experience life, we must first make change in our minds. All else will follow!

The Nature of God and Successful Prayer: Spirit – Part Six

Do you spend time thinking about negative conditions or the end of the world? Are you having trouble seeing good in others? If you have prayed for positive change with no results, you are not alone. Many people feel disconnected or distracted during prayer, and can’t seem to focus on what’s truly permanent or important in life.

Emmet Fox, a New Thought minister from the 1940’s, taught that focusing on God’s qualities is the best way to turn negative conditions around. His book Alter Your Life helped many people understand their relationship to God to experience more peaceful and productive lives. Emmet’s essay The Seven Main Aspects of God addresses spirit, and how we can release limiting thoughts to see the beauty in life.

Let’s continue to expand, and release limiting thoughts. This will open your door to a happier life.

The Sixth Aspect: Spirit

Unlike matter, spirit is permanent substance. Matter is limited and decays. Spirit is eternal. Any material item deteriorates over time. Spirit, like energy, cannot be destroyed or downgraded.

While your spirit resides in the human body, it cannot disappear at the end of your earth life.  It was not born, it will never die.  It is your true self and does not change.

Matter wears out, like your house or clothing.  Your car deteriorates, as all other material items, but this is wonderful quality because it allows for their replacement of new and better things. It drives innovation and your imagination, because you must constantly think about improving what you have. Although many types of cells in your body can regenerate (for example, the outer layer of skin replaces itself every 35 days) and the human body is in a constant state of renewal and replacement, nobody has figured out how to make your body last forever.  It does wear out, but spirit doesn’t because it is not subject to decay.

The entire universe is an interesting creation. You might believe it was an accident, or a giant collision of astronomical bodies, or a spiritual creation. Whatever you believe, your existence is an illusion. Quantum physicists have discovered that physical-material reality isn’t physical at all. Atoms are not the smallest particles of the universe; they are made from even smaller subatomic particles that emit constantly vibrating and spinning energy.

Each atom radiates its own unique energy. The atom has no physical structure and neither do we. Nor does any other material thing. Legendary physicist Max Planck said that there is no matter; all matter arises and persists only due to a force that causes atomic particles to vibrate, holding them together in the tiniest of solar systems, the atom. The origin of all matter, he said, is a force that is conscious, intelligent mind or spirit. Something must hold it all together.

We Are Energy

Fundamentally, we are all energy, not tangible matter, because when we look closely, there is nothing solid there. Energy vibrates at a lower frequency so we can perceive it in our dimension. What does that mean? It means that what we see is not what is. We see the world in a limited, distorted way. Matter is unreal; it is an illusion facilitated by our senses and it is only our perception of a state of consciousness. We see certain objects and participate in different events in the world, but they are all mental experiences that we give objective existence.

From a spiritual perspective, this underlying energy is the glue that informs the patterns of sub atomic particles. Their vibration and relationship to one another, is God or spirit. Spirit can never die.  It is the true substance.  This aspect of God is part of you.  It IS you.

Whether a good or bad perception, matter is only a distorted vision of spirit. Matter can be beautiful in the form of nature, art, or any number of gorgeous material things, but it is really spirit shining through. Emmet taught that the veil of matter (the limitation of our thoughts) in a beautiful landscape is relatively thin, and in an ugly war zone or slum, the same veil is comparatively thick, but that’s the only difference. The presence of God, and any quality we see, is apprehended through the veil of matter.

If you are experiencing trouble, or something in your life seems to be damaged or in a state of decay, it is time to realize the aspect of God as Spirit. By realizing the aspect of God as spirit where the trouble seems to be, the condition will improve itself.  Remember, matter is not reality. A negative condition is a spiritual idea seen in a limited way.  When you realize this, and affirm that God exists behind the thing or situation, it will change for the better.

Daily Practice: Practicing the Presence of God as Spirit

  1. Think about the entire world, your home, place of work, the people you know, and your body. Imagine the sub atomic particles of these things as vibration or energy.
  2. Visualize the nature of God as Spirit, and think about the unchanging nature of spirit, as the only reality. Feel the presence of God behind any material item or situation.
  3. In your mind, see that everything is a spiritual idea. See that you are spirit and not a physical body.
  4. Claim that spirit dwells in you and in anyone or any situation that you are concerned about. Claim that everything and everyone has the same spiritual substance within them.
  5. Affirm that any trouble is a spiritual idea, seen in a limited way. Feel yourself ‘rising above it.’ Let go of the situation.

Successful Prayer

Pray regularly. Spend less time complaining and more time engaged in positive solutions.  If you see a deficiency in your relationships or current conditions, acknowledge that spirit is shared by everyone. You can energetically rise above any circumstance and change yourself, and those around you, for the better. Claim that the presence of God is at work in your life. Claim that spirit is with you always, and works through you.

The entire universe, and everything we experience, is a connected system. One thing cannot change without changing another. Therefore, to change our situations or the way we experience life, we must first make change in our minds. All else will follow!

The Nature of God and Successful Prayer: Soul – Part Five

Are you feeling overwhelmed with life? Are you facing responsibilities that seem too big for you to manage? If you have prayed for positive change with no results, it is time to reconnect to your source through prayer.  You can make positive changes through prayer when you learn how to tune into God on a regular basis.

Emmet Fox, a New Thought minister from the 1940’s, taught many people to focus on God’s qualities at the onset of any problem. Emmet’s spiritual wisdom in his book Alter Your Life is timeless, and steers us toward a higher state of awareness and positive results. This series continues to discuss his essay The Seven Main Aspects of God.

Let’s continue to put your mind in the right place, so you can learn to pray successfully.

The Fifth Aspect: Soul

When you are asked to perform a task that seems too big, or are asked to step up to an overwhelming responsibility, it is time to contemplate on the aspect of God that is Soul. God individualizes himself in you. In other words, God is undivided in you without breaking separately into parts.  You are not broken or fragmented parts of a bigger whole, but are the whole of God, in human version. God individualizes himself in human form, because he is infinite. He is a unit of consciousness in you. You are not separate from him. There is no separation at the spiritual level. It is an illusion.

You are a Reflection of God the Totality

If you were to break a dinner plate into many fragments with a hammer, each piece would make up the whole. Matter can be broken up, and a broken dinner plate is the sum of all its fragments.  This is division, not individualization.

God, like a hologram, is himself in every image that is reflected from him. For example, a three-dimensional hologram is created by bouncing a laser beam of light off an object, then bouncing another laser beam off the reflected light of the first. The interference pattern (the area where the two beams come together) is captured on film. When the film is developed, and illuminated by another laser beam, a three-dimensional image of the original object appears.

What is remarkable is that if a hologram of a rose is cut in half and then illuminated by a laser beam, each half will still contain the entire image of the rose.  If you divide that rose over and over again each film would contain an intact, although smaller, version of the rose. Every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole, implying the idea of separateness, is an illusion. We see a changing totality in our lives, but there is a self that is one.  It is a vast, omnipresent, and endless self that dwells in all beings.

There is No Separation Between You and God

Oneness is our natural state of being. Nobody is separate from God because it is impossible in a unified universe. God cannot be separate from anything or anybody. You are an individualized piece of God.  Many wisdom traditions call it the indwelling Christ, or the Christed self, or the I AM. It is the presence of God within you. This is what it means that the divine spark is in you.

To have the Christ light within, or ‘have Christ in you,’ means you have obtained that level of God consciousness. A Christed one is an enlightened person who has awakened to his or her own divinity and light. It is one who embodies a higher vibration to fully reflect God, in a vibrational sense. This state of being puts an individual in a complete harmonic state with the divine. It is a state of awareness where an individual consciously draws themselves back to unity with all creation and realizes that God’s own reflection exists in all humankind.

Christ consciousness (examples are Krishna and Buddha in other wisdom traditions) is the highest form of consciousness a human can express or experience. It is God firmly seated in your individual consciousness, such that you are aware of the presence of God within you, but it is not your individual ego thinking you are God. It is your awareness of your God essence.  It is a vibratory state, an illuminated way of being and living.  It is divinity projected from the inside.  For Jesus, God’s reflection had fully manifested in him, and he knew he was inseparable from the divine. He projected a higher vibration, and he could bring others up to his vibratory level.

How to Raise Your Vibration

Raising your vibration to ‘take the higher road’ when you experience a negative situation is a choice.  When you choose to express higher ideals in your daily life, you raise your vibration.  You can choose to express more compassion, love, forgiveness, peace, kindness, maturity, or positive leadership. When you do, you are allowing a higher form of energy to be the guiding force behind your actions. Activated light emanates from your every glance, your every gesture.  When you embody the vibration of higher consciousness you see yourself as God sees you.  You are raising your vibration, because you see everyone and everything as God sees. This is a pure, awakened state based upon an understanding of the truth of who you are.  You feel boundless.

It is important to work from the ‘inside out’ if you desire to make positive change in your life. Raising your vibration to attract better relationships and circumstances starts by changing your mental state.  Anyone can raise their vibration if they desire inner growth, practice self-reflection, have positive intentions, and make a sustained effort.

Each day, learn to see life clearly.  Be fully present in every situation.  Focus on thoughts and words that carry the highest vibration. If you are not happy with what’s going on in the world, stop complaining on the social media and posting negative, rude, or verbally abusive commentary. Offer better and positive solutions to things that trouble you. Have intelligent discussions. Learn to connect with others. Be self-reflective. Use auspicious language and don’t allow your thoughts and words to turn into negative stories and illusions.  These are the first steps to raising your vibration.

God’s Presence is Within You

‘Realizing the divine in you’ means you have awakened yourself to the idea that God has become conscious in you. Remember, God is experiencing the art of living through you. Therefore, God is your partner. You can choose to consciously co-create with God to improve your life. This means you have the awareness that God individualizes himself in you and allow this aspect to inform your decisions with regards to your work on the planet.  Your work can be any number of things: music, selling shoes, governing, designing dresses, or simply helping others. If you choose to live an informed life, you recognize that you are an individualization of God, and therefore, God works through you. Knowing this, and practicing the idea, allows you to enter a higher category of work.

Remember, infinite intelligence is embedded in every particle of creation. Like the rose, God is a pure reflection of spirit in the created realm. If you are consciously aware of being the ‘sum total,’ you are everywhere at once. Therefore, your thoughts, actions, and words are quite powerful.

Daily Practice: Practicing the Presence of God as Soul

  1. Visualize the nature of God as Soul. Extend your awareness past your body, from all of humankind. Extend your awareness out of our solar system, and beyond the infinite realm.   Realize there is no thing (nothing) outside of this all-inclusive infinity.
  2. Know that God is the one totality where every level of awareness, and all creation, is held.
  3. Know that you are eternally connected and dependent upon the whole; therefore, you are everything, and are one unified consciousness. Feel that sense of oneness with God, and see that God lives inside you. This is your soul.
  4. Claim that divine soul dwells in you and in anyone or any situation that you are concerned about. Claim that everybody has God within them. Know that everyone has a choice to express this.
  5. If you are experiencing a difficult relationship, affirm that divine truth is expressed through that being AND through you.

Successful Prayer

Be persistent and pray regularly. If a negative condition arises, turn back to this aspect and claim the presence of God is at work in your life. Raise your vibration every day and learn to rise above negativity. Claim that God is with you always, and works through you.

Awaken to the idea that God is experiencing life through you. You are part of a living system of interdependent systems of energies. When you raise your vibration, you are helping others do the same. Positive change will follow!

The Nature of God and Successful Prayer: Intelligence – Part Four

Do you feel certain areas in your life seem to be going wrong? Has a business deal reached a deadlock or have other conditions in your life seem to be at a standstill? If you have prayed for positive change with no results, you are not alone. Wasting time and energy in the ‘wrong direction’ to fix a problem means you need to think about God in an intelligent way.

According to Emmet Fox, a New Thought minister from the 1940’s, focusing on God qualities first produces results. His book Alter Your Life helped many people understand their relationship to God, and how to tune into God on a regular basis. This series continues to discuss Emmet’s spiritual essay The Seven Main Aspects of God.

Let’s continue to put your thoughts in the right place, so you can learn to have a successful prayer.

The Fourth Aspect: Intelligence

Prayer is thinking about God’s aspects. God is Intelligence Itself, not an intelligent being with many brilliant ways of organizing our lives.  We reside in an intelligent universe. It is efficient. Nothing is designed that is wasteful or without purpose. An intelligent universe is harmonious with all ideas working together for a reason. There are no unnecessary parts. It is perfect and complete, and everything serves an important purpose.

Attract What You Lack

If you dwell on love, life, truth, or intelligence, you are developing those qualities in yourself. As you think, so shall you be. When you think of those qualities in other people, you develop that quality in others. If you want to attract more love in your relationships, then think of yourself as a loving individual. Be loveable in your words and deeds, and practice loving kindness toward others. Stop criticizing your boss or the current political state of affairs and generate a better attitude toward others.  Recognize the good in people. You will see instant results.

To think of God as Intelligence, is to become more intelligent yourself. You will attract smarter, more efficient business dealings, and have an easier time dealing with difficult people. Know that divine intelligence works in you, through you, and through other people because they were created from the same divine substance as you.  If their acts are despicable, condemn the act, but not the human being, and realize that intelligence resides in him or her.  Their essence is the same; they are simply not awakened to their true potential.  To write off people as stupid, stubborn, lazy,  or evil doesn’t make positive change.

Most people are interested in creating a better world through a wide variety of opportunities such as education, economic self-sufficiency, or non-violence.  If you are among those who have a moment to help another individual’s situation beyond practical measures, then take time to realize the intelligence within them.  See divine love, truth, life, and intelligence within them instead of posting negative verbiage on the social media.  If enough people do it, the consciousness of all men and women will rise because the collective vibration with be closer to God’s vibration of harmony and infinite abundance. Doing this will steer everyone toward common sense and goodness.

An Intelligent Universe

If you think you are a vitally important expression of an intelligent universe, you will begin to see less limitation in your daily experiences.  Think about God as Intelligence and claim this quality lives within you. See it in others, and every activity of your life will begin to be more efficient. You will be shown better ways to perform your job. You will attract a higher quality of life, and solutions to problems that put you up against a wall will be presented. Remember, every quality you develop in yourself develops the same quality in another individual.

Everyone needs to work in conjunction with the powers of an intelligent universe, not contrary to it.  Being in awe of our ecosystem or the way the human body was designed is a good place to start. Imagine the endless collection of planets in space. Think about the sheer genius that permeates life as a whole. All of us are part of a very big, harmonious idea that is so big, it’s humbling to realize the intelligence that binds it together. Nobody is outside of this intelligence.  It is in us and works through us. Realize the quality of intelligence first in yourself, claim it, and then see the intelligence that resides in all people and situations.

Daily Practice: Practicing the Presence of God as Intelligence

  1. Think about God. Recognize that God is Intelligence Itself and has no reason to create disharmony, waste, or any inefficiencies. Your purpose on earth is to be part of a greater whole, so think about having an important role in the way the universe works.
  2. Claim that intelligence resides in you and is expressed by you. See it expressed in a difficult individual. Stop analyzing a troubling situation which seems to be unfixable. It could be about health, business, or difficult children. Realize that divine intelligence exists in that person or in that situation.
  3. Recognize God as Intelligence. Sit in this feeling for a few minutes. Have gratitude that you have this quality in yourself.

Successful Prayer

Prayer is thinking about God. Chose to dwell upon the aspects of God, not your problem.  When you do, you develop that quality in yourself and in other people around you. Be diligent and pray regularly. At a minimum, when a negative condition arises, turn back to this aspect and claim that the presence of God is at work in your life. Claim that this quality is with you always, and works through you.

The entire universe, and everything we experience, is a complex, interdependent system of thoughts.  One thing cannot change without changing another.  Therefore, to change our situations or the way we experience life, we must first make change in our minds. All else will follow!

The Nature of God and Successful Prayer: Love – Part Three

Do you feel unloved or have difficulty creating loving relationships? How do you attract positive people who will make your life better? If you have prayed for positive change with no results, you are not alone.  Many people feel prayer produces no results, especially when they desire a loving relationship. When praying, what should you think about and why? How do you create a state of mind and heart to attract more love?

Focusing on God’s qualities first produces results. Emmet Fox, a New Thought minister, taught many people to focus on the seven main aspects of God in prayer.  This is a wonderful essay from the book Alter Your Life. He taught that to produce results in prayer, we must understand our relationship to God, and how to tune into God on a regular basis.

Let’s continue to put your thoughts in the right place, so you can learn to pray successfully and experience results!

The Third Aspect: Love

Emmet is very clear on why our prayers are not answered. The universe is governed by law, and the law cannot be broken.  There have been countless books written about Jesus as one who did not break the law of being when he performed miracles or healings. Love heals. It is the state of being we need to be in. Love should govern our lives; it is our natural state because we come from and are within a creation that is based on love. Fear, is the opposite of love, and is a destroyer.

When Jesus prayed, he fulfilled the law.  And the law is that we must have a sense of love for all involved.  We must generate a sense of love for ourselves, and for others.  We need to drench ourselves in love each day, and project it outward with positive thoughts and words.  Service to others needs to have a sense of love behind it. Love is our fuel, and we must do our best to express love in every action.  There is no exception.

God is Love.  We may think God loves us or is loving, but this view characterizes God as human.  No such human being or entity could be the totality of all infinite creation.  God is not a bigger edition of yourself.  He is not located only in your place of worship or garden. He is everywhere, dwells in all things great and small, as we already talked about. Realizing God as love, means we recognize that God’s nature is love. When you feel lack or fear, think about the nature of God as Love and feel it inside you.  See it everywhere.  Surround yourself in love. Claim divine love in others and in yourself, and what you need will come to you.

Making a Demonstration

When we talk about manifesting, or bringing about a demonstration, it means we are using prayer to draw something into our lives. How do we do this? We need to quiet our minds, and find a few moments of peace, and go within.  We need to shut off the cell phones and TV and be still. Begin to think about God.  Begin to think about the aspects of God: He is love, he is infinite, or absolute truth, intelligence, or harmony.  If it helps you to quiet your mind, meditate or read poetry or scripture you love and admire.

Do not think about your problem but give all your attention to the nature of God. Just be peaceful and think about his aspects. Then claim what you see lacking in your life, for example, a relationship or a new business partner. It can be any area you feel there is lack. Just claim it with quiet confidence, as if you were asking for anything you know will be given to you.

Believe you have received it and give thanks.  Imagine if you have been handed a beautiful gift.  How would you feel?  You would feel thankful.  You would rejoice or be emotionally touched that someone had lovingly given you a gift.  You would be excited and look forward to experiencing the gift. Put yourself in a state of gratitude for receiving what you wanted.  And keep your process to yourself. Relax, and don’t broadcast all over the internet that you are praying and making demonstrations. Have quiet patience and confidence that all is well.

Loving God More Than Your Problem

The greatest spiritual teachers in history have said that any condition can be healed with love.  When we develop an enormous sense of love and dwell in it regularly, we are projecting the highest vibration in existence. Choose to dwell in love when the going gets tough. Like attract like, which is a natural law of this universe. When we dwell in loving thoughts, and surround ourselves with positive people and circumstances, we are in a positive environment.  We attract more positivity in the form of abundance, prosperity, and loving relationships.  A loving human being does not attract strife.  Why is it true that no matter where disagreeable people are, they seem to bring negativity and unhappiness with them? It is because they carry a penchant for strife and fear. Those vibrations attract more of the same.

If you release your fears, suspicions, self-doubts, negativity, anger, judgement, or prejudice, and replace those ideas with the highest vibration of love, the world would look very different. Your life would improve. You can learn to protect yourself in the spirit of love.  In other words, do not allow people to cheat or take advantage of you. By doing so, you help them to be selfish or dishonest.  Protect yourself, but always in the spirit of divine love.

Fear and love are mutually exclusive.  When there is love present, there cannot be fear. When you enter a state of fear and worry about your problem and potential outcomes that your mind is inventing, you must think about divine love.  Shift your attention to the aspect of God that is Love. Shift your focus to love, and learn to inhale it. Meditate on love. See yourself as a loving individual and imagine being around loving people. Practice the presence of love by doing good for others with a joyful and compassionate heart. Soften your language, eliminate criticism and condemnation, and do your best to express more love each day.  Love must reside your own heart to do any good for you.

Why Your Prayers are Not Working

Emmet said that a strong belief in God as absolute truth and divine love will bring about a demonstration under any circumstances. Remember, the universe is governed by law and to fulfill the law when we pray means we have to have a sense of love for all. Love heals and is expansive.  It produces and creates.  Fear destroys and belittles us.  Fear diminishes our potential. Always find ways to express love.

When something is not right in your life, you need to see God present in that individual or situation.  See love in him or her.  If someone is ill, see the presence of God in their body. If someone is poor, see the presence of love in that person and in their situation. Claim that divine love exists in that person and in yourself. Then let go. Emmet said that a strong sense of divine truth and love applied like this, will make a demonstration. In other words, what you need will come.

God is Love

Love is inspiring, comforting, and peaceful. And the more we meditate on that, we will feel better.  We will be happier and healthier.  We will be closer to God. When things aren’t going the way we want in life, it is because we are producing energy (thoughts and actions) that give us the illusion we are disconnected from our source.  We can truly never be outside of God because God is everywhere and we are in him but mainly, we’ve lost a sense of his presence. When we are disconnected, it is easy to bring hardship upon ourselves. Think about it. Get disciplined about your outlook and thinking. And remember to dwell in love for a few minutes each day. It should be your permanent residence. This is a beautiful form of prayer, and the foundation of all positive change you wish to bring into your experiences.

Daily Practice: Practicing the Presence of God as Love

  1. Pray by thinking about love. Hold God in your heart. See love, surround yourself with love.  Surround yourself and others, and any problem you have, in love.
  2. Ask for the highest and greatest good to enter your problem or situation. Ask for peace, healing for all involved. Pray for leadership to make decisions out of love.
  3. Visualize love. Send love into your difficult situation.  Know that the most positive and perfect outcome that is harmonious for everyone involved has been done.
  4. See love as an anchor for positive change throughout the world, your neighborhood, your family, your house, and you.

Successful Prayer

Pray regularly. When you feel unloved or depressed, turn back to this aspect and see the presence of God in your life. Claim that the quality of love is with you always, and works through you. Love is in you. Love never fails, but love must be in your heart first to have any effect. You cannot attract love without being a loving individual first! Do your best to look for love in everyone and everything.  Think of love often, claim it in yourself and in others, and express it.  Practice it toward all human beings without exception.

The closer you feel to God in prayer, the more peaceful and loving you will be, and your nature will change. Therefore, to change our situations or the way we experience love in our life, we must first make change in our minds and hearts. All else will follow!
