Love to Learn

When my son graduated from the U.S.C. School of Music, Vince Mendoza, a famous composer and arranger, gave the commencement address.  He advised young musicians entering the music industry to always ‘practice and play positive.’ Have positive energy while creating music, he said, and if you are making music with gusto and love, you will not only translate the art form into something that uplifts humanity, but you’ll make the loudest mistakes. The best musicians are unafraid to put themselves out there 100%.  Finally, he reminded the graduates to have faith. Remember, the music is always in you. Always.

He also spoke about how important is to have an attitude of continuous learning in life. Without this humble attitude, a person can never be empowered to serve another human being, nor personally or spiritually grow. We teach our children the importance of a good education, going to school and the value of homework.  But learning is more than getting prepared for a better job or tomorrow – it’s a positive attitude about how we should view life.

Commit to Constant Improvement and Growth

We can showcase our capabilities simply for the joy of doing it, but also we must make a commitment to constant improvement. Life is a process and we can never really expect to reach perfection. Often, it is not the material that provides a personal growth lesson, but the context surrounding the learning.  Volunteer for an organization that teaches impoverished inner city kids to read. At the end of the day, you’ll find you learned far more from them then they did from you. Life is a big, reciprocal exercise and if we don’t put ourselves out there to learn something new, we will miss an opportunity to grow.

The possibility of what you can do keeps life interesting! To live a balanced life and feel empowered we must encourage others to learn, but also show we are not above making positive change. As adults, it is important to take a class. Test your limits to learn anything new. Develop your innate gifts that can help someone.  By doing so, you are helping to serve and uplift humanity.

Together, let’s:

  1. Show people that learning is about elevating the human condition. Learning, and improving your mind and heart, is about how we can better release our gifts to the world and serve humanity. Show your children you desire to challenge yourself in order to serve another human being. Teach them that learning and education is not all about making more money.
  2. Fill each day with enthusiasm, positivity, and hope for a better world.  All positive energy is contagious when you are committed to living life fully. Learning is a result of that process. You will experience life differently when your attitude is positive and hopeful. Teach others to see their challenges as opportunities, not obstacles.
  3. Be humble to the process. Whether you want to learn to dance, get a high school diploma, or complete your Ph.D., feel empowered by the process. Don’t be critical of yourself and feel you cannot learn fast enough than someone else.  You will always have your own rendition of every song, so sing with gusto and happiness. If you do, no matter what you learn, you will face your responsibilities with a sense of renewed joy and confidence.

We can trust life to show us what we need to learn but we must put effort into the process! Let’s affirm:

“When I look in the mirror, I see a person whose potential knows no boundaries. I am an example of a miracle and a work in progress. I engage in life robustly and wholeheartedly, without fear, knowing I contribute to the greater good of humanity.  My contribution is important because no one has my unique essence.  I love life, and love to learn.”

Become a life-long learner. Your desire to learn uplifts humanity and is vitally important to experiencing an empowered and balanced life.

Every Blessing,

Your Journey to Joy series is designed to help viewers search from within to look for what they need to create their own personal journey to joy and happiness. Viewers will be able to select from several lessons presented by the renowned author, researcher and educator who coaches and speaks on positive thinking, self-discipline and empowerment.

“Joy is a word that sounds wonderful, but is an illusion to many,” said Proctor.  “With my new series I will share some simple, easy ways to train your mind to help create the life and joy you desire.  It will be a different journey for everyone depending on where you are in your life.”

Proctor’s own journey has not been easy.  Prior to authoring several books on personal growth, self help and spirituality, the mother of two struggled with her then teenage son’s alcoholism and the toll it took on herself and her  family.    Proctor suffered from a debilitating back injury, depression and weight gain and began searching for a way to release her emotional suffering.  She traveled to Fiji and India to study at the Oneness University.  That experience led her to discover what true joy was and how she could translate it into her everyday life.  She took up ballroom dancing as an outlet and found she loved it and it loved her back.  She lost 32 pounds, healed from back surgery and went on to win numerous dance awards with her dance partner Blake Kish from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills.

“We all encounter tough times and challenges in life and I am so grateful to bring Your Journey to Joy to metro Detroiters.  I want to help my audience create positive change by taking charge of their own thinking,” said Proctor.  “Through greater self-awareness we are all empowered to find our joy no matter what obstacles we face.”

Your Journey to Joy series will be available on Comcast On Demand and Proctor’s website, www.charleneproctor.com, beginning in November.

Foreword by Rev. Dr. Charlene M. Proctor

Spiritual growth, says Sri Bhagavan, always begins where you are, not where you want to be. This is his favorite advice, which he gives spiritual seekers who travel to India and want to shed their past traumas so they can move forward in life with strength and dignity. His goal is to show people who seek a relationship with the Divine the joy of a life that is free from pain. I’ve been there. I know it is entirely possible to empty our bodily containers of fear, regret, worry, self-doubt, and old emotional programming and conditioning and live in the present moment. But we must make a conscious decision to stop clinging to our old stories and reliving them. If we want to experience true freedom, we must be willing to give up our suffering and let go of fear. There is no room for personal or spiritual growth when our lives are polluted by the agonies of the past.

How Can a Blessing Change Your Life?

Pierre Pradervand asks this question in “The Gentle Art of Blessing: A Simple Practice That Will Transform You and Your World.”

I am currently reading this wonderful book that explains how we can make a conscious choice to bless every person or being around us.  Blessing others makes a positive difference! Blessing another individual is to acknowledge the divine light within him or her and their beauty that is hidden from material eyes; it is to hold in reverence a person’s potential and to behold with awe that which is a gift from the Creator. It is to wish, from the deepest chamber of your heart, unrestricted good for another person.  And when we invoke divine care upon, speak or think gratefully for, or confer happiness upon another person, Pierre says, we are never the bestower, but simply the joyful witness of life’s abundance.

For all blessing givers, deeksha givers, or anyone who wants to acknowledge the universal goodness in an individual, make it your daily habit.  As you walk though your city in which you live or the office where you hang your hat, bless people even if they are unkind. Bless them sincerely, totally, and joyfully. Be conscious of blessing someone at least ten times a day. Wish for their peace, and see them stepping into a vision of who they are in the eyes of God.  Acknowledge their unlimited good.

I guarantee, once you make this a habit, you will see positive change or an event turn around. Last Tuesday at 4 a.m., my son asked to be taken to the hospital. He was in a great deal of pain. He has a tumor on his appendix; it was infected and had ruptured. When we arrived, it looked like a long wait. I sensed inefficiency, and negativity. The nurse who first attended him came in his cubicle, complaining about being sick herself, saying since she was coughing and feeling lousy, she should not have to be there (meanwhile handling his I.V.) Something needed to change!

If you would feel happiness and ease to be blessed by those who create problems for you, Pierre writes, why not be the one who takes the initiative of reversing the negative energy by starting to bless them? He says instead of feeling like you’re the victim of a situation you can’t control, manifest your dominion by taking the initiative to correct a situation. You can choose not to submit to an apparently helpless situation.

As my son lay on a gurney waiting to be seen by the surgeon, I took a few moments to bless him and the hospital staff too. I asked for healing for every individual that entered our space. I blessed my son and his perfect health that would be made apparent to him soon. I blessed every person that we would encounter that day, and asked for God to reveal their perfection to them. I blessed the patients at the entire hospital, asking for their joy and vitality to be revealed to them. And I blessed the staff’s capacity to provide compassionate care and wisdom in delivering what they were trained to do, and to use common sense and wisdom in the process.

It took about 15 minutes to change the energy around on Tuesday morning, and for the rest of the week, it could not have been a smoother process.  We were the first ones in surgery that morning, and landed the best doctor at the hospital. My son never had a roommate assigned, the nurses were cheerful and wonderful, and he healed very quickly. I constantly emanated the energy of gratitude and expressed my thanks for anything anyone did for us. I gave every nurse on our team a chocolate bar and blessed them again. Our resources fell into place, and all was well.

Together, let’s practice the art of blessing. Take a few moments today to give a blessing. It is not a magic trick… anyone can do it.  Let your heart do the talking! Know there is more unconditional love to go around than we can possibility imagine. Start with your significant other, your kids, neighbors, and your co-workers. You’ll be glad you did!  If you bless someone today, please let me know how it made a positive difference in your life.

Charlene
