The ancient mind and how can it help up cope in today’s environment

Present Moment Awareness aThere is only One Mind.  It sounds quirky, but there is only one mind. Our individual brains are separate within our bodies and the details of our minds are separate, for example, what I prefer, what I like to eat for breakfast, what I think about in my work, or my favorite color. These thoughts are my thoughts, but I am not thinking anything new that someone else has not thought of a thousand years ago.  I have the same fears, emotions, grief, pain that someone has had. We all have experienced the same suffering, it is not unique.

The Mind wants us to create all kinds of concepts and beliefs about our suffering, so it can constantly perpetuate itself. It does not exist without all that chatter. The mind contains the flow of thoughts, emotions, concepts, beliefs, the past and viewpoints, but it also contains fear, jealousy, judgment, or the quest for significance. The Mind is meant to compare, that is the Mind’s job.  And it works the same for every individual in the world.

The Mind is meant to be a tool, something to help us distinguish, compare, and decide.  But instead of making friends with the Mind, we’ve let it run amok. It won’t shut up. We have forgotten how to be quiet, and be engaged in what we are doing or experiencing. Instead, we are caught up in the concept our belief systems, comparisons, or analysis. We need the mind as a great organizer and tool, but it should be working for us, not running our lives. It is up to us to get it under control, be friends with it, and be aware of what it is designed to do.

So, when life becomes overwhelming, remember you can never be free of the Mind, you must become free WITH IT. It always creates a sense of separation, which is where all suffering begins, so first recognize how it is flavoring your present day reality, and just SEE.

Only then will you learn to love the experience of life, free from conditioning and negativity. Nothing is truly falling apart or uncertain; it is the sense of separation the Mind wants you to see.  When you can embrace that thought, and replace uncertainty with love, life will seem better, and all as it should be.

The Vision Board That Didn’t Work…Or Did It?

Oprah has taken an interest in people who had vision boards that produced positive and abundant change in their lives. On February 11, 2007, after the February 8th airing of the The Secret with James Arthur Ray and Michael Beckwith, I sat myself down and spent the entire day creating a vision board of my own. Since I have no problem visualizing anything, I felt this was a terrific exercise in setting goals, creating an intention, and thanking the universe for what I have already received. I remember looking at my new vision board and thinking, Well, God wants us to have it all, so why not? I held nothing back in creating the board. It was complex, crazy, I shot for the moon.

When I finished, I celebrated. I spent at least an hour dancing joyfully around the living room in a state of gratitude. I allowed every experience on that board to come into my being (and believe me, there were events on that board of such complexity I think even God would have to pause to figure out how to make them manifest into reality). For the first time, I allowed myself to really feel what it was like to receive these gifts and have these events happen in my life. To be given all the gifts on that board, to know them, was humbling. When we ask, it is given, and then we offer thanks to the Divine for being a co-creative partner in our growth and evolution. This is one of the secrets of the visualization process. It’s how we attract new conditions and circumstances. I was reminded in Oprah’s show that after we create in the mind we must express deep gratitude from the heart. This expression tells the universe that we are already in receipt of what we asked for.

But after we ask, how do we draw ourselves into alignment with what we want? With healings, gifts, or more love? During the last three years, the gifts on my board I received were healthy skin (I beat cancer), a healthy body (made it through back surgery), and improved family relationships. I asked for simplicity at work—and wound up losing my office; I wish I knew why I asked for that one!

But many other things I did not experience or receive. Things like working with Michael Beckwith in raising consciousness, or my next book hitting the New York Times best-seller list. The book I was writing at the time didn’t get picked up by a publisher, and since the idea was not well received, I dropped the project. There was no media blitz, no fresh material, and I went back to the drawing board. How long would it take, I wondered to write a book that everyone wants to read? And what am I not doing to support this vision of being a teacher who uplifts the human spirit?

I put the board away.

Then one day I got an email whose subject line was “What guest I learned the most from on Oprah.” …continue reading the entire article here…>

Kingdom of Heaven

Many enlightened beings have pointed out that we look everywhere for God but never find him until we look inside. Finding God inside seems too simple, too improbable. But the kingdom of God, which we also call heaven, is not a place in another galaxy far, far away. It is within us, and it’s a completely accessible state of attunement containing all the qualities we ascribe to God: wisdom, bliss, love, and a higher-level vibration. To know heaven, we must replace error-ridden thoughts with joy-producing good vibrations. Heaven, which is inner truth, lies within our reach and can be revealed to you as you ascend to a higher level of conscious awareness. In deep meditation, when we withdraw from the issues of the outer, material world and focus on the realm of heaven in the inner world, heaven is near. To experience heaven, we must visit the place where God resides, which is a higher state of vibration. We must redirect our energy and draw from their natural energy stream. Heaven is a meditative place where a person first realizes that the kingdom is within and acts accordingly and wholeheartedly to express it in thought, word, and deed. This is how we each bring the kingdom of heaven to earth. We saturate ourselves in the work of translating higher ideals and principles into daily life. This is what a spiritual awakening is.

Regardless of external circumstances, anyone can find and express the kingdom of God. This expression is a place of clarity and calm, where the unity of all things is revealed, and is your higher self at work, the antaryamin within you. When we are centered in such knowledge, we don’t need to seek love or acceptance from other people or the external world at large. It is more enjoyable to focus on truth and humility and project our self-love than to worry about what others think. When all we do is seek praise and accolades from our contemporaries, we become blinded by the temporary happiness of celebrating ourselves and forget about our brightest light, the spirit within. When we have complete self-acceptance and honor the divine every day by expressing our gratitude, it is easy to feel comfortable with who we are and accept others. This is also where the kingdom is to be found.

A new 90-minute movie on where we find the kingdom is Being in Heaven. It’s about losing everything when life takes an unexpected turn. Often those are the times that lead us to real answers! I think you’ll enjoy this film about letting go of the past, embracing personal transformation and freedom, and finding true happiness.

How Can a Blessing Change Your Life?

Pierre Pradervand asks this question in “The Gentle Art of Blessing: A Simple Practice That Will Transform You and Your World.”

I am currently reading this wonderful book that explains how we can make a conscious choice to bless every person or being around us.  Blessing others makes a positive difference! Blessing another individual is to acknowledge the divine light within him or her and their beauty that is hidden from material eyes; it is to hold in reverence a person’s potential and to behold with awe that which is a gift from the Creator. It is to wish, from the deepest chamber of your heart, unrestricted good for another person.  And when we invoke divine care upon, speak or think gratefully for, or confer happiness upon another person, Pierre says, we are never the bestower, but simply the joyful witness of life’s abundance.

For all blessing givers, deeksha givers, or anyone who wants to acknowledge the universal goodness in an individual, make it your daily habit.  As you walk though your city in which you live or the office where you hang your hat, bless people even if they are unkind. Bless them sincerely, totally, and joyfully. Be conscious of blessing someone at least ten times a day. Wish for their peace, and see them stepping into a vision of who they are in the eyes of God.  Acknowledge their unlimited good.

I guarantee, once you make this a habit, you will see positive change or an event turn around. Last Tuesday at 4 a.m., my son asked to be taken to the hospital. He was in a great deal of pain. He has a tumor on his appendix; it was infected and had ruptured. When we arrived, it looked like a long wait. I sensed inefficiency, and negativity. The nurse who first attended him came in his cubicle, complaining about being sick herself, saying since she was coughing and feeling lousy, she should not have to be there (meanwhile handling his I.V.) Something needed to change!

If you would feel happiness and ease to be blessed by those who create problems for you, Pierre writes, why not be the one who takes the initiative of reversing the negative energy by starting to bless them? He says instead of feeling like you’re the victim of a situation you can’t control, manifest your dominion by taking the initiative to correct a situation. You can choose not to submit to an apparently helpless situation.

As my son lay on a gurney waiting to be seen by the surgeon, I took a few moments to bless him and the hospital staff too. I asked for healing for every individual that entered our space. I blessed my son and his perfect health that would be made apparent to him soon. I blessed every person that we would encounter that day, and asked for God to reveal their perfection to them. I blessed the patients at the entire hospital, asking for their joy and vitality to be revealed to them. And I blessed the staff’s capacity to provide compassionate care and wisdom in delivering what they were trained to do, and to use common sense and wisdom in the process.

It took about 15 minutes to change the energy around on Tuesday morning, and for the rest of the week, it could not have been a smoother process.  We were the first ones in surgery that morning, and landed the best doctor at the hospital. My son never had a roommate assigned, the nurses were cheerful and wonderful, and he healed very quickly. I constantly emanated the energy of gratitude and expressed my thanks for anything anyone did for us. I gave every nurse on our team a chocolate bar and blessed them again. Our resources fell into place, and all was well.

Together, let’s practice the art of blessing. Take a few moments today to give a blessing. It is not a magic trick… anyone can do it.  Let your heart do the talking! Know there is more unconditional love to go around than we can possibility imagine. Start with your significant other, your kids, neighbors, and your co-workers. You’ll be glad you did!  If you bless someone today, please let me know how it made a positive difference in your life.

A Reader Asks, "What is Christ Consciousness?"

Recently, a reader asked me to briefly explain what I meant by Christ Consciousness. It is discussed in my newest book The Oneness Gospel: Birthing the Christ Consciousness and Divine Human in You (coming soon!)

By Christ Consciousness, I mean the state of attunement and alignment Jesus had with the Father, a state of being, and elevated state of consciousness. A state where only love exists.

Hence, he was so identified with the Father, he considered himself one with Him at all times. You will find him referring to himself as such, throughout the Gospel of John.

It is important to note that he told us we could achieve this state too, with diligence and attention paid to what we carry – our thoughts, intentions, and our forgiveness factor. Also, an awareness of what resides in our hearts, which hopefully, is good (God). These are all are important to rising in conscious awareness of our relationship to Spirit. In The Oneness Gospel, I discuss this state of oneness, talk about how we discover it, and make it work in our lives.

Since I went to India this year, I noticed many congruencies with some of the teachings of the monks who studied under Sri Amma Bhagavan, the founders of the Oneness University India, and the teachings of Jesus. I thought this was very interesting!  In many respects, the two camps are really talking about the same ideas, only using different terms. I thought my readers would be interested in the oneness teachings enough to spark their interest in New Testament, and read it with fresh eyes.  To embrace it at a metaphysical and metaphoric level!

Remember, whether we are from the East or West, and no matter our wisdom tradition, we are all one people who carry the same light within. It is the Christ within that illuminates your life (and the life of others). When we attune with that, and realize our potential, it allows us to achieve excellence in all things. When we recognize it in ourselves, we can then see it in our family and friends, and all of humanity.

How do you view this light that is within you? Do you feel this helps you rise in confidence and tackle difficult circumstances?  Does it assist you in inspiring and uplifting others? In what ways do you rise in conscious awareness? Let share some thoughts!

Today’s tip from a reader:  pay careful attention to using auspicious language and simply speak positive in all ways, no matter what is going on in your life!  See if you notice any difference in your energy, attitude, and the way people react to you.

There is a wonderful affirmation on Daily Word at www.unity.org! See http://www.dailyword.com/ about excellence and the Christ Light within. Check it out!

Have a beautiful day, filled with many blessings. Thank you for writing in!

Divine Thoughts: Worry Less by Building Gratitude

In the current economic conditions, many people are worrying about how change will trickle down into their personal lives. If a daily exchange of fear, blame, or doom has replaced your daily affirmation, you need to say yes to the goodness life has to offer and build an attitude of gratitude.

Living in a true state of thankfulness allows us to manage worry with ease. No matter how difficult they are, life’s lessons are always learning opportunities. Spirit is attempting to get your attention in an area that is not serving your best interests. When we acknowledge the lesson, learn from it, and add gratitude to our daily life, worrying will fall away. Let’s practice six ways to build gratitude today.

  1. Yes, You can cope. Affirm it! When the caca hits the fan, first learn to affirm your innate ability to cope.
  2. Remember that you are made of Unlimited, Divine Spirit. Affirm that spirit is a part of your skill set. Invite the Divine Presence into each day and every circumstance and in whatever wisdom tradition or faith feels right to you.
  3. Widen your perspective to deep appreciation.
  4. Use the Law of Attraction.
  5. If you want to be a person who is loved, continue to give unselfishly and thank others for all they do.
  6. Get the energy to return to you by practicing gratitude.

Living in a continual state of gratitude for being alive and well and having a chance to improve the lives of others through your words and actions turns negative situations around very quickly. When you express gratitude in your words and actions, you’ll be among the most beloved people on this planet, and your worrying will fall away. Without a thankful approach to life, we do not have as great an opportunity to explore the limits of our patience and our capabilities as loving individuals have.
