The dawn of a new year brings refreshing new beginnings. It’s an opportunity for new thoughts and choices and certainly, a time to remind us of a new way of being. Hopefully, this means “being” awake spiritually and using every opportunity in 2011 to open our minds to divine direction and guidance. And it is a time to celebrate relationships – friends, lovers, our communion with Mother Earth, or even our abundant and productive business connections. After all, life IS relationship, the very foundation of what constitutes our oneness as a human community.
Last weekend in Fairview, Michigan, I gathered with old friends to celebrate deep connections and started 2011 with enthusiasm. In between grilling, walking miles in the woods, and visiting the local attraction, a stuffed beaver at The Buckstop, I found time to refresh my spirit in the cold northern air.
On New Year’s Eve, as the sun started to settle, I walked out of my lodge, and from its rugged porch, I saw two bald eagles sitting in the middle of a frozen lake. The eagle is a powerful symbol of nobility and discrimination, and to Native Americans, he represents the highest expression of spirit. Eagle feathers have intrinsic value as they symbolize truth. To have an eagle as an ally means that you also have expanded discernment and you have the ability to approach life with keen vision.
When the eagles lifted off of the lake, they hovered for a moment, as if they were viewing their options from a lofty perspective. It reminded me that as long as we see life as a learning journey, and choose from our Highest Self, all will be well. There is no need to worry about making perfect decisions. In the beginning, the Divine created heaven and earth. Heaven represents our capacity for our highest level of thought, and on earth, we are to remain fully open energetically and allow Spirit to inform our daily decisions. Like the eagle from a high vantage point, it seems we should also strive to make our best choices, just see what happens, and be open to change.
This year, I hope you will recognize all your new experiences as loving gifts – and to find the inherent blessings in absolutely everything.
I am excited about all our new beginnings this year. Together, let’s soar like eagles!
